Our Ministry
Among our ministries are a Children’s Ministry, a Youth Ministry, many opportunities for adults to help do God’s work, a monthly XYZ Ministry to share a meal and fellowship with our sister churches, and a Music Ministry. Read more about our diverse ministries.
Our History
The history of our church is tightly tied to the town of Rutherford College. The namesake of our church is the late Dr. R. L. Abernethy who founded a college for which the town is named. The college was destroyed by fire and eventually merged with Brevard College.
Much of the property where the college once stood hosts Valdese General Hospital now. Our church was built just to the north of the college in the 1930s and named to honor Dr. Abernethy who provided educational opportunities to so many. Read more about the history of our church and our community.
